Member for Auburn Lynda Voltz has called on the NSW Government to offer fair compensation to taxi licence plate holders who have been left in the cold by the NSW Government.

Signing the NSW Taxi Council’s Taxi Industry Pledge in Lidcombe, Ms Voltz met with plate owners and drivers, as well as Nick Abrahim from the NSW Taxi Council, to discuss the impact that changes to point to point transport legislation in 2016 has had on their business and their lives.

Many of the plate owners described how they took on debt and mortgaged homes to purchase the plate licence and set up a future for their families, only to be left struggling when the NSW Government changed point to point transport legislation in 2016 and the value of their licences plummeted. This has left some who are well past retirement age with no superannuation and large debts.

In signing the pledge, Ms Voltz said it was time for the NSW Government to step up and offer up fair compensation for plate holders.

“Taxi licence plate holders have been left high and dry by the NSW Government,” Member for Auburn Lynda Voltz MP said.

“The legislative changes have had a devastating impact for these plate holders, who mortgaged homes and went into debt in order to provide a future for them and their families.

“I’m proud to sign the NSW Taxi Industry Pledge and support these local small business owners.

“I’ve spoken about this in NSW Parliament before & I will again; it’s time the NSW Government came to the table and offered fair compensation.”
