Arabic version: مراهق يتغلب على رهاب المتحولين جنسياً ليحتضن هويته ويُلهم الآخرين
Kaz, a 17-year-old from Bunbury, Western Australia, reflects on his journey of self-acceptance and resilience on the International Trans Day of Visibility. According to ABC News, Kaz faced significant challenges in school due to transphobia, which led to severe depression and a suicide attempt.
Growing up, Kaz struggled with gender dysphoria, particularly during puberty when he felt increasingly uncomfortable in female uniforms. Despite the bullying he faced at his Christian school, where he was targeted for cutting his hair and expressing his identity, Kaz found solace in social media and the support of his family.
His mother, Aleisha, played a crucial role in his journey, helping him navigate changes in his name, appearance, and pronouns. She emphasized the importance of family support, stating that they have all learned and grown together. Kaz eventually transferred to a new school where he felt accepted and celebrated, finding a community that supported his identity.
Kaz advocates for better awareness and understanding of transgender issues, noting that many misconceptions persist about gender-affirming care. He hopes that sharing his story will encourage others facing similar challenges to embrace their true selves, emphasizing that being trans is not political at all, but a matter of personal identity.
