A 16-year-old electric motorcycle rider was reported for multiple traffic offences after crashing into a car while performing a wheelie in Morphett Vale, South Australia. The incident occurred last Friday, June 26, as police were attending a minor collision outside the Southgate Plaza shopping centre.

According to ABC News, body-worn camera footage captured the reckless act, showing the boy riding on only his back wheel before colliding with a vehicle and being flung approximately 20 metres away. Fortunately, he did not suffer serious injuries.

The rider has been reported for several offences, including riding in a dangerous manner, riding an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle, and driving while unlicensed. His electric motorcycle has been impounded, and he will be summonsed to appear in the Adelaide Youth Court at a later date.

Superintendent Shane Johnson of the Traffic Services Branch emphasized the dangers of such reckless riding, stating that it could lead to severe consequences on the roads. He noted that the driver of the car involved in the incident was left visibly shaken and upset due to the crash.

The state government is currently reviewing regulations surrounding electric dirt bikes and other electronic mobility devices, as concerns about unsafe riding practices, particularly among children, have risen. Johnson urged all road users to take accountability for their safety, especially given that a significant number of fatalities this year have involved vulnerable road users like motorcyclists and cyclists.
