This year has been a wild rollercoaster for the club. Between recruiting new members, participating in various Lions and non-Lions events, and preparing for the Recharge Dinner in November, we received a wide variety of communications requesting support. From people looking for company to others looking for their next meal, the club has done its best with its current situation to try and help wherever possible.
Although we can definitely not help in every single case, we have done our best to respond to each call for support and, at least, point them in the direction of someone who is specialized to provide support in each case. Regardless of the situation, our club will always live by the motto “where there is a need, there is a Lion”. Whether by helping directly or indirectly, as Lions, we aim to be there for the community.
Now that we have held our Recharge dinner which proved to be very successful, we are working on ironing out our procedures in line with those of the Lions Clubs International. Meanwhile, we continue working on promoting the club with three goals in mind:
- To inform people that help is available, and all they have to do is reach out.
- To attract new members which will strengthen the club and allow us to create and attend more events through which we can either help in providing support or in fundraising.
- To reach out to other community organisations and find ways to collaborate whereby the club provides funding and/or manpower where needed.
With the holiday season quickly approaching, we have been approached by many community organisations and businesses to conduct fundraisers or to help. Although we wish we could attend each of them, our members can sometimes be stretched too thin. Despite that, they do their best when possible and have collectively provided more than 400 hours of service this year and helped more than 2,500 people.
And this is our gift to the community… a gift that keeps on giving, and the more members we have, the more we will be able to give individually and collectively.
If you’ve got some free time on your hands, even if it’s an hour a week or even less, become a Lion and use it for the greater good. In return, you become part of our tight-knit family and make lifelong friends who enjoy making the world a better place for everyone.
In the end, I would like to wish you all a very happy holiday season and all the prosperity and health for the New Year.
