US President Donald Trump expressed his dissatisfaction with NATO members during a meeting with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte on June 24. Trump criticized European countries for not supporting the US-Israel war on Iran, reiterating his belief that their participation was lacking.

According to Al Jazeera, Trump stated, “We didn’t need help on this at all. We demolished them in literally the first week,” but added that it would have been nice if NATO allies had offered assistance.

Rutte’s visit comes just weeks before NATO’s annual summit scheduled for July 7 in Ankara, Turkiye. Trump has previously hinted at a potential withdrawal from the alliance, signaling the importance of discussions with Rutte behind closed doors.

During the meeting, Rutte attempted to highlight NATO’s contributions, showcasing charts of increased defense spending among member nations. He acknowledged Trump’s frustrations but argued that the NATO alliance had provided support in various ways, including the use of European military bases.

Despite Rutte’s reassurances, Trump remained unconvinced, emphasizing his disappointment with NATO’s overall response to the conflict. The meeting underscored ongoing tensions as the US and Iran continue negotiations for a ceasefire following the recent military actions.
