President Donald Trump has canceled the planned trip of U.S. envoys to Pakistan after Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi departed the country. According to Al Jazeera, Trump informed Fox News that he instructed envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to abandon their plans for talks in Islamabad, despite earlier claims that Iran was “making an offer” aimed at resolving the two-month conflict.

Trump expressed his frustration with the situation, stating, “I said, ‘Nope, you’re not making an 18-hour flight to go there. We have all the cards.'” He emphasized that Iran could reach out to the U.S. at any time but ruled out further lengthy flights for discussions that he deemed unproductive.

Araghchi had met with key Pakistani officials, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, before leaving Islamabad. He indicated that he had presented Iran’s position on a potential framework to end the war on Iran, expressing uncertainty about the U.S.’s commitment to diplomacy.

Following his departure from Pakistan, Araghchi was reported to be heading to Oman and then Russia for further discussions. Trump’s remarks indicated a lack of expectation for compromise from Iran, with ongoing tensions in the Strait of Hormuz impacting global oil markets.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has stated their intention to maintain control over the strategic waterway, which has heightened concerns about energy supplies. Despite the canceled trip, Trump reassured that it did not signal a return to hostilities, mentioning that the U.S. had not yet considered such actions.
