Arabic version: ترامب يصدر إنذارًا نهائيًا لإيران بشأن المفاوضات
United States President Donald Trump has threatened Iran with a two-day deadline to negotiate, warning that failure to reach an agreement will lead to severe consequences. In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that Iran must either make a deal or face the opening of the Hormuz Strait, a crucial waterway for global oil transport. This statement comes as the search continues for a U.S. pilot who is believed to have ejected over Iran after an F-15 fighter jet crashed in the country, which Iran claims responsibility for.
According to Al Jazeera, Trump’s threat follows a 10-day ultimatum he issued on March 26, demanding that Iran allow international traffic through the Strait or face the destruction of its energy plants. The deadline for this ultimatum is set to expire on Monday, heightening tensions in the region.
In recent days, Trump has ramped up his rhetoric regarding Iran, threatening to target the country’s power plants and oil facilities. He has also expressed intentions to bomb Iran “back to the Stone Ages.” Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi indicated that Tehran remains open to diplomacy, despite rejecting a proposed 15-point plan from the Trump administration.
The ongoing search for the U.S. pilot has not been directly addressed by Trump, who reportedly believes the incident will not impact negotiations. Experts warn, however, that the potential capture of the pilot by Iran could complicate diplomatic efforts and give Tehran leverage in future discussions. The situation remains fluid as both sides navigate their positions in this escalating conflict.
