Arabic version: ترامب يستعرض خطة السلام الإيرانية، ويحذر من ضربات جوية محتملة
United States President Donald Trump has said he is reviewing Iran’s 14-point proposal to end his war on the country, while warning that Washington could restart air strikes if Tehran “misbehaves”. Speaking to reporters in Florida before boarding Air Force One on May 2, 2026, Trump confirmed that he had been briefed on the “concept of the deal”.
According to Al Jazeera, despite the diplomatic opening, Trump struck a characteristically blunt tone regarding the possibility of renewed hostilities, which have been paused since the announcement of a ceasefire between the sides on April 7. “If they do something bad, there is a possibility it could happen,” Trump said when asked if strikes would resume. The Iranian proposal reportedly includes demands for the lifting of the US naval blockade, war reparations, and the release of frozen assets. Tehran is also seeking a 30-day window to finalize the peace terms, which contrasts with Washington’s preference for a longer timeline.
Trump expressed skepticism about the viability of the Iranian proposal, suggesting that Iran has not faced sufficient consequences for its actions over the last 47 years. The situation remains precarious, with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stating it is on “full standby” for a possible return to hostilities. This comes amid ongoing frustrations over the US naval blockade, which Trump has described as a “very profitable business,” a characterization that Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned as an admission of piracy. The complexities of reopening the Strait of Hormuz, compounded by the presence of Iranian sea mines and a rift with NATO allies following the US troop withdrawal from Germany, further complicate the diplomatic landscape.
