Arabic version: الطقس في المملكة المتحدة ينتقل من موجة حر إلى ظروف ممطرة
Cooler temperatures and rain are expected across much of the UK starting Sunday, marking the end of an unseasonably hot spell. The recent heatwave peaked with a record temperature of 35.1°C (95.2°F) in London on Tuesday. Following days of high temperatures, the forecast indicates a drop to around 24°C as Atlantic air moves in.
According to BBC News, a stronger jet stream will steer areas of low pressure across the UK, leading to more unsettled weather. Rain is anticipated to develop on Monday, particularly in the west, where it may be heavy at times. By Tuesday, a mix of sunshine and heavy showers is expected, potentially with thunder and lightning.
This wet weather is likely to be welcomed by gardeners in southern and eastern England, where recent months have been notably dry. As the week progresses, temperatures will continue to drop, with maximums ranging from 15-20°C by Wednesday.
The recent heatwave has had tragic consequences, with at least 14 fatalities reported due to incidents in water. Among the victims is a 15-year-old girl who died after difficulties in the sea off the Merseyside coast, and a 19-year-old man found in a Nottinghamshire lake. Emergency services are currently searching for an 11-year-old boy who went missing in the River Don, prompting renewed warnings about the dangers of swimming in open water, especially for children.
