Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a deal with Saudi Arabia to share its drone defense expertise and technology. This agreement was finalized during Zelensky’s visit to Saudi Arabia and aims to bolster Saudi Arabia’s defenses against threats similar to those Ukraine has faced from Russia for over four years.

According to BBC News, Zelensky emphasized the mutual benefits of the partnership, stating that both nations can strengthen their defense capabilities through cooperation. He highlighted the importance of not just producing new weaponry but also integrating existing systems and technology effectively.

In addition to the drone defense agreement, Zelensky discussed with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman the ongoing support Russia provides to Iran and its implications for regional security. He expressed a desire for Middle Eastern nations to assist Ukraine in enhancing its own defense capabilities against the Russian invasion.

Ukrainian drone manufacturers have reported interest from Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, for their products. However, they are awaiting approval from the Ukrainian government to proceed with exports, emphasizing the need for coordination between business and national security interests.

As geopolitical tensions rise in the region, the agreement is seen as a crucial step for Ukraine, particularly as reports suggest the U.S. might redirect military resources from Ukraine to the Gulf, further highlighting the urgency of the drone defense deal.
