Arabic version: تأجيل محادثات وقف إطلاق النار بين الولايات المتحدة وإيران بعد الضربات الإسرائيلية في لبنان

According to Al Jazeera,

Planned talks in Switzerland between the United States and Iran to discuss the technical terms of their ceasefire deal have been postponed. The Swiss Foreign Ministry confirmed early on Friday that the talks, which were scheduled to take place in Burgenstock, would not go ahead. Reports suggest that Iran has delayed sending its delegation to discuss the technical issues linked to the ceasefire deal due to Israel’s ongoing military campaign in Lebanon.

Israeli attacks overnight and into Friday have reportedly killed at least 16 people in southern Lebanon, with Iran-linked Hezbollah reporting intense fighting. The talks were expected to be held at the Burgenstock Resort, which is owned by Katara Hospitality, part of Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund that has mediated peace in the conflict.

The Swiss Foreign Ministry stated that the planned talks involving the US, Iran, Qatar, and Pakistan have been postponed but emphasized that Switzerland remains ready to facilitate these discussions. No new date for the talks has been provided.

The postponement comes just two days after the signing of a 14-point memorandum of understanding that outlines a framework for negotiations over a 60-day period. Vice President JD Vance was set to meet with Iranian counterparts at the Swiss resort, but the trip was abruptly called off on Thursday evening. The White House explained that while Vance and his delegation were prepared, they could not finalize plans, leading to his decision to remain in Washington. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also canceled his trip to Switzerland, as confirmed by his spokesperson.
