The United States has conducted airstrikes on Iranian military positions over the weekend, escalating tensions in the region. According to BBC News, the US Central Command (Centcom) stated that these “self-defense strikes” were a response to aggressive actions from Iran, including the downing of a US drone.

The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) retaliated by targeting an American air base, although the specific location was not disclosed. This exchange marks the third escalation in a week around the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, which has seen increased military activity despite ongoing ceasefire negotiations.

Kuwait’s military reported that its air defense systems were engaged in confronting missile and drone attacks, although further details were not provided. Air raid sirens were activated across the country, indicating heightened alert due to the ongoing threats.

In the backdrop of these military actions, former President Donald Trump expressed optimism on social media, suggesting that negotiations with Iran could yield a favorable deal for the US. However, no formal agreement has been reached, and discussions regarding the terms of a ceasefire have stalled, particularly concerning the shipping channel and Iran’s nuclear program.

The US military confirmed that it targeted Iranian radar and command sites in the vicinity of the Strait of Hormuz, specifically in Goruk and on Qeshm Island. The attacks were aimed at neutralizing threats to maritime traffic in the region. The IRGC has warned that any further US aggression would result in a significantly different response from Iran.
