Arabic version: تصاعد العنف بعد مقتل شاب فلسطيني على يد المستوطنين

A young Palestinian man was killed and four other people were injured when a group of Israeli settlers, backed by Israeli forces, opened fire on a village in the occupied West Bank. The victim, identified as Nasrallah Abu Siyam, 19, was fatally wounded during an attack in the village of Mukhmas, located northeast of occupied East Jerusalem. The incident was reported by the official Palestinian news agency Wafa.

The attack on Mukhmas occurred on Wednesday evening. In addition to the gunfire, the settlers also stole dozens of sheep from local residents. This incident is described as part of a broader pattern of violence against Palestinian communities, with calls for international protection being made by local authorities.

Mu’ayyad Sha’ban, head of the Palestinian Authority’s Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission, condemned the attack, labeling it as “systematic terrorism” that reflects a partnership between settlers and Israeli occupation forces. He noted that since October 2023, settlers have killed 37 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, emphasizing that such violence will not deter Palestinians from their land.

The governorate of Jerusalem characterized the killing of Abu Siyam as a “fully-fledged crime” carried out under the protection of Israeli forces. Reports indicate that Mukhmas and surrounding areas have faced repeated assaults from settlers, often occurring with the presence of Israeli military personnel. The situation has raised alarm about the increasing violence and the use of live ammunition against Palestinian citizens.

The recent killing comes amid a backdrop of intensified Israeli military operations in the West Bank, including forced evictions and home demolitions. The Israeli government has also approved plans to designate large areas of the occupied West Bank as state property, a move seen as a de-facto annexation that undermines Palestinian rights. This decision has drawn international condemnation and highlighted the ongoing tensions in the region, as the plight of Palestinians continues to escalate amidst settler violence and military actions.
