According to ABC News, the NSW Waratahs defeated the Fijian Drua 34-17 in the Super Rugby Women’s final in Ba to win their third consecutive championship and seventh overall.
The Waratahs scored six tries to three and led 12-0 at half-time. Faliki Pohiva crossed early in the second half, with Desiree Miller adding the conversion, before Rosie Ferguson scored to extend the visitors’ advantage to 24-0.
Reserve outside back Amelia Whitaker scored twice, finishing an attacking movement in the 63rd minute before adding another try four minutes later. The Drua responded through Nunia Daunimoala, who scored two tries, and Sulita Waisega, whose try came just before the final siren.
Pohiva, the Waratahs tighthead prop, was named player of the final. The Waratahs had finished third in the regular-season standings after losing two matches, then beat the Western Force 33-22 in the semi-finals.
ABC News reported that the Waratahs’ new halves pairing of Tia Hinds and Waiaria Ellis directed the team’s attack in both the semi-final and the title decider. The Drua had finished top of the regular-season standings and hosted the final.
