According to BBC News, Monday’s newspaper front pages focus on plans that could allow water companies to raise prices during droughts, alongside Amy Hunt’s European Championships gold-medal achievement.

The Metro leads with “Water cheek!”, reporting campaigners’ criticism after the government backed the plans. Government officials said the proposal would “make bills fairer and more affordable while encouraging greater water efficiency”. The Daily Star uses the same headline, with a picture of a parched Ascot racecourse.

The Times reports possible widespread restrictions on water use at car washes and private swimming pools if low rainfall continues. It says Whitehall officials have prepared a “reasonable worst-case scenario” that could include limits on businesses. The paper also gives prominent coverage to Team GB athlete Hunt after her unprecedented fourth European Championships gold medal.
