Arabic version: وست هام يحث جماهيره على وقف هتاف مناهض لفلسطين
According to BBC News, West Ham have urged supporters to stop an “offensive and divisive” chant relating to winger Manor Solomon that contained an “anti-Palestine message”.
The chant was heard from a section of West Ham’s away support during last Sunday’s 2-2 Championship draw at Burnley. Solomon made his West Ham debut at Turf Moor after recently joining from Tottenham.
In a statement issued before Saturday’s home match against Charlton, West Ham said supporters should remember their responsibility to represent the club properly, adding that every fan is an ambassador.
The club said supporters, regardless of background, should be able to watch football without fear, discrimination or abuse. It said it remained committed to ensuring people feel safe, respected and included.
West Ham acknowledged that singing and chanting are a traditional part of matchdays, but encouraged fans to sing about the club and players in claret and blue without creating division or causing offence.
