Arabic version: النمور تطرد روب إدواردز بعد الهبوط من الدوري الممتاز
Wolverhampton Wanderers have sacked head coach Rob Edwards after just seven months following their relegation from the Premier League. Edwards, who was appointed last November, struggled to secure results, winning only five of his 30 matches across all competitions and finishing at the bottom of the league.
According to BBC News, the decision to part ways with Edwards has surprised many within the club, including his coaching staff. Technical director Matt Jackson had previously expressed confidence in Edwards, emphasizing the importance of alignment within the club’s hierarchy for future success.
Edwards joined Wolves after leaving Middlesbrough, where he was engaged in a promotion race. However, he faced significant challenges at Wolves, which he described as a ‘mess’. Despite his efforts to change the club’s culture, his lack of success on the pitch ultimately led to his departure.
The club had already begun planning for life in the Championship, securing signings such as Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez, both of whom were attracted to the club under Edwards’ leadership. The unexpected dismissal raises questions about the club’s strategy going forward, especially with reports linking Cesar Peixoto, currently managing Gil Vicente in Portugal, as a potential replacement. This decision represents a gamble for Wolves, as Peixoto has never managed outside of Portugal.
