Alby Weyden, a six-year-old golf prodigy from the Sunshine Coast, has received an invitation to compete in the US Kids Golf Canadian Invitational. This prestigious multi-day championship is set to take place in July 2026, giving Alby just over two months to prepare. According to ABC News, his father, Jason Weyden, expressed surprise at the invitation, noting the family’s excitement over this unexpected opportunity.

Alby’s journey in golf began at a remarkably young age; his parents recall that he was obsessed with golf balls even before he could walk. His mother, Emma Weyden, shared that Alby would carry a container of golf balls everywhere, showing a deep passion for the sport from the start. This enthusiasm led to formal lessons at the age of three, where it quickly became apparent that Alby had a natural talent for the game.

Despite his achievements, the Weyden family faces financial challenges in attending the tournament. They estimate costs around $15,000, which includes flights, accommodation, and tournament fees. Emma, a stay-at-home mom who home-schools her daughter, emphasized the difficulty of funding such a trip but is determined to support Alby’s dreams.

Recently, Alby was crowned the US Kids Golf Local Tour Champion for boys aged six and under, further establishing his reputation in the sport. His father serves as his caddy, and both parents encourage his love for golf, despite receiving some negative online criticism regarding their support.

Alby’s passion for golf is evident as he enjoys playing both competitively and socially, often practicing with his father. He remains unfazed by setbacks on the course, focusing on enjoyment and improvement. With aspirations to compete internationally, including a desire to play in Hawaii, Alby Weyden is poised to make his mark in junior golf.
