On August 23, the Penrith Young Champions Awards made their highly anticipated debut at the Boronia Showroom in St Mary’s, celebrating young individuals who have made significant contributions to their local community. This marked the first time the Young Champions Awards were held in the Penrith region, expanding from their origins in the Cumberland and Macarthur areas.
The event was a vibrant celebration, filled with music and dance performances that highlighted the talents of the local community. Brian Laul, the 2023 Citizen for Campbelltown and founder of the Young Champions Awards in 2019, delivered a heartfelt speech acknowledging the hard work and dedication of the nominees and winners. He expressed his pride in the event’s expansion into Penrith, emphasizing the importance of recognising young leaders who inspire and uplift their communities.
NSW Deputy Premier Prue Car, unable to attend in person, shared a special message with the attendees through a video projected onto large screens. Her message underscored the significance of community service and the impact of recognising those who go above and beyond for their local areas.
The highlight of the evening was the announcement of the award winners. Katie Astley received the prestigious “Champion of Champions” title for her exceptional achievements across multiple categories. Her dedication to various community initiatives and her role as a mentor for young people earned her this well-deserved honour.
Organised by Rainbow Crossing Inc., the Penrith Young Champions Awards aimed to acknowledge the outstanding efforts of individuals in fostering a sense of community and contributing to social cohesion. Congratulations to all the finalists and winners who were recognised at this inaugural event. Their hard work and dedication continue to make a positive impact on the Penrith region and beyond.
