Arvid Lindblad, Britain’s youngest Formula 1 driver, has taken an unexpected break from racing just three races into his debut season. Originally scheduled to compete in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix this weekend, the 18-year-old has been using this time to reflect on his performance and pursue hobbies like skateboarding. According to BBC News, Lindblad is eager to return to the track, particularly looking forward to his upcoming race in Miami.

Lindblad made his debut at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne last month, where he finished eighth and scored points for his team, Racing Bulls. Following races in China and Japan, the Grand Prix events in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia were cancelled due to the war in the Middle East. With only three races completed, Lindblad shared that he is still coming to terms with his new identity as an F1 driver.

The young driver, who has cultural ties to England, Sweden, and India, proudly displays flags representing these backgrounds on the back of his racing helmet. Lindblad expressed that the diversity of his heritage has significantly shaped who he is both as a person and a driver. He is particularly excited about competing in his first home Grand Prix at Silverstone in July, where he expects family support and a unique racing experience.

While Lindblad has expressed a desire to race in India, where the Buddh International Circuit last hosted F1 events in 2013, he acknowledged the challenges surrounding the return of the Grand Prix. Recent claims from an Indian government minister about an upcoming race were dismissed by F1 officials, who stated that there are no plans for an India Grand Prix in 2027.

As a newcomer to F1, Lindblad has yet to participate in the popular Netflix series “Drive to Survive,” but he looks forward to making his debut in front of the cameras. He has found camaraderie in the garage, especially with fellow driver Max Verstappen, who has offered guidance as Lindblad navigates his early career in Formula 1.
