The state of Victoria will host the Commonwealth games in March 2026. The Victorian government has taken this opportunity to claim that Victoria is Australia’s sporting capital, and that Victoria 2026 will take Victoria as a state to the world.

Victoria 2026 will be the first Commonwealth games to introduce a new multi-city model bringing global sport to four Victorian regional hubs:

• Geelong
• Bendigo
• Ballarat
• Gippsland.

The 4 regional hubs will deliver a 16-sport program in world-class regional sporting venues. Each hub will have its own athlete village.

The Victorian government hopes the 2026 Games “will create a legacy for Victoria that extends well beyond the competition period”. The program includes significant investment in community infrastructure in regional Victoria, including housing and world-class sporting facilities.

The 2026 Commonwealth Games will consist of a great focus on confirming works benefit Victorians long after the Games have concluded.

Athlete villages in all four regional hubs will be converted into social and affordable housing, to help regional communities develop and prosper.

New and upgraded sports infrastructure will help give rise to regional Victoria the standard place for key events, offering world-class facilities for local sporting clubs and the packed schedule of sport and events which Victoria entices.

Further than the infrastructure, Victoria 2026 will help support Victoria’s responsibility to diversity and inclusion, while substantially improving international relationships during the course of the Commonwealth over sport diplomacy.
