A recent investigation has uncovered a collaboration between convicted American sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, focusing on profiting from instability in Nigeria. According to Al Jazeera, the duo marketed surveillance technology honed in the occupied Palestinian territory to tap into Nigeria’s lucrative oil and logistics sectors.

The investigation, conducted by Drop Site News (DSN), reveals that Epstein and Barak utilized a series of emails to discuss leveraging the Boko Haram rebellion as a means to pitch their “field-proven” security solutions to Nigerian officials. These communications indicate that the security deals often served as a gateway for broader commercial interests, including infrastructure projects for DP World and investments in the energy sector.

Barak’s involvement included facilitating the sale of biometric surveillance equipment to Nigerian institutions under the guise of counterterrorism measures. Notably, the technology was originally prototyped at the Beit Hanoon (Erez) crossing, where it was used to control the movement of Palestinian workers. This connection raises ethical concerns about the application of military technology in civilian contexts.

The documents also highlight how Epstein acted as a facilitator for high-level negotiations, attempting to secure ownership of Nigerian ports for DP World. His correspondence with Nigerian officials underscores a strategic approach to exploit the country’s resource wealth, often under the pretext of security cooperation.

Despite Barak’s claims of ignorance regarding Epstein’s criminal activities until a wider inquiry began in 2019, his long-standing relationship with Epstein has drawn scrutiny. The investigation reveals a complex web of connections between Epstein, Barak, and various Israeli interests, further complicating the narrative of their business dealings in Nigeria.

As these revelations come to light, they raise significant questions about the ethical implications of using conflict and instability for profit. The fallout from this investigation could have lasting impacts on the reputations of those involved and may lead to further inquiries into the relationships between private interests and government security operations.
