Arabic version: ريبل ويلسون تواجه محاكمة تشهير بسبب مزاعم ضد منتج
Rebel Wilson is currently embroiled in a defamation lawsuit filed by actor Charlotte MacInnes, who stars in Wilson’s new film, The Deb. MacInnes alleges that Wilson made defamatory claims about her on social media, specifically regarding an incident involving producer Amanda Ghost. According to ABC News, MacInnes contends that Wilson falsely accused her of retracting allegations of sexual harassment by Ghost in exchange for acting opportunities.
The court has heard that Wilson allegedly orchestrated a website that contained false and malicious claims about both MacInnes and Ghost. During the proceedings, it was revealed that Wilson requested her crisis communications firm to create a site that described Ghost as the “Indian Ghislaine Maxwell.” This description aligns with serious allegations, as Ghislaine Maxwell was convicted for her role in facilitating abuse.
Testimony from Katie Case, a former vice-president at The Agency Group, indicated that Wilson’s team communicated about creating a harsh website targeting Ghost. Text messages submitted to the court show discussions about making the site provocative, with phrases suggesting it would label Ghost as a “madam.”
The website, which was published under the addresses amandaghost.com and amandaghostsucks.com, included claims that Ghost misused her position as a producer. The copy alleged that she “trades on pleasure for protection” and suggested that her production of The Great Gatsby stage musical was a reward for silence regarding past abuses.
As the trial unfolds, Wilson has denied that her posts and the website carried defamatory meanings. If the court determines that they were indeed defamatory, Wilson’s defense may lean on the argument of truth regarding the claims made during the proceedings. The trial is projected to last for nine days, with further testimonies expected to elaborate on the allegations and the nature of the website in question.
