The coastal community of Dolphin Sands in Tasmania is on high alert due to a bushfire threat. The Tasmania Fire Service (TFS) has issued a Watch and Act warning, advising residents to closely monitor changing conditions. According to ABC News, a fire has been reported at McNeills Road, Swansea, and is travelling east towards Dolphin Sands.
Officials have indicated that the fire is expected to be difficult to control, with the potential for embers, smoke, and ash to pose risks to residents and their properties. The TFS cautioned that visibility may decrease and breathing could become difficult due to the smoke.
Fire crews are actively responding to the situation, and residents are encouraged to stay informed about the latest updates. The TFS has emphasized the importance of having a bushfire plan in place and urged individuals to assess their preparedness.
Residents are advised to decide early whether to evacuate and ensure they have a clear route to safety. If individuals choose to remain, they should be aware that their homes may not be defendable against the advancing fire. For ongoing updates, the community is directed to listen to ABC Local Radio or visit tasalert.com. The Dolphin Sands area previously experienced devastating fires in December 2025, which resulted in the destruction of 19 homes.
