Arabic version: تولسي غابارد تستقيل من منصبها كمديرة للاستخبارات الوطنية الأمريكية
Tulsi Gabbard will resign from her position as the US director of national intelligence, citing her husband’s recent bone cancer diagnosis. In her resignation letter, she expressed the need to support her husband during this challenging time, stating, “I cannot in good conscience ask him to face this fight alone while I continue in this demanding and time-consuming position.” According to BBC News, her resignation will take effect on June 30.
President Donald Trump acknowledged her contributions, stating in a social media post that Gabbard “has done an incredible job, and we will miss her.” Following her departure, Aaron Lukas, the principal deputy director, will step in as acting director, as confirmed by Trump.
Gabbard, a loyal supporter of Trump during his 2024 presidential campaign, was confirmed as one of the most powerful figures in US intelligence-gathering weeks after he returned to the White House in 2025. She has been largely absent from the public eye during a year marked by significant US military actions. She previously served as a congresswoman for Hawaii and ran for president in 2020, advocating for an anti-interventionalist foreign policy.
Her resignation adds to a list of recent departures from the Trump administration, which includes Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Attorney General Pam Bondi. Gabbard’s commitment to her family during this difficult period underscores the personal challenges faced by public figures in high-stress positions.
