Arabic version: استعادة جثة في البحث عن صبي مفقود في نهر لانكشاير
According to BBC News,
A body has been found in the River Ribble during the search for a 12-year-old boy who went missing while swimming. The incident occurred in Ribchester, Lancashire, at about 14:00 BST on Tuesday. Police and fire crews initiated a large-scale search operation, which concluded with the recovery of the body at approximately 19:50 BST. Although formal identification is pending, Lancashire Police believe it to be the body of the missing boy.
The recovery coincides with a significant heatwave affecting parts of the UK, with temperatures reaching record highs. Some areas in London recorded temperatures of 35.1C, surpassing previous records set just a day prior. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued heat-health alerts, warning of increased risks related to cold-water shock and drowning.
Local residents have expressed concerns about the dangers of swimming in the river, noting that it is often frequented by visitors unfamiliar with the area. Ann-Marie Ruddock, a long-time resident, mentioned that locals tend to avoid the river due to its risks. Tragically, the search for the boy is part of a troubling trend, as multiple water-related fatalities have occurred in recent days across the UK.
Authorities are urging the public to exercise caution in water, especially during the ongoing heatwave, which has led to several drownings. The Royal Life Saving Society has emphasized the importance of swimming in supervised areas and being aware of the risks associated with cold water. They advise anyone in an emergency situation in the water to call 999 and to throw something that floats to the person in distress while waiting for help.
