Arabic version: غارات إسرائيلية تقتل قائد حماس العسكري الجديد في غزة
Hamas has confirmed that Israeli airstrikes killed its new military leader, Mohammed Odeh, along with his wife and two children. The strikes occurred on Tuesday local time in a residential building located in Gaza City’s Rimal neighborhood. According to SBS News, the attack resulted in the deaths of at least five individuals and left 12 others injured.
The Israeli military, led by Defense Minister Israel Katz, stated that Odeh was targeted due to his involvement in orchestrating the October 7 attack on southern Israel, which has escalated the ongoing conflict. This marks the fourth time Israel has eliminated the head of Hamas’ military wing since the start of the current war. Katz referred to Odeh as “one of the architects” of the October 7 attack.
In the aftermath of the airstrike, thousands gathered in Gaza City for the joint funeral of Odeh and his family. Mourners displayed Hamas flags and carried posters of Odeh, commemorating his long-standing service with the group over the past three decades.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to continue targeting Hamas leaders implicated in the October 7 assault. The current ceasefire between Israel and Hamas remains tenuous, with over 900 Palestinian casualties reported since its implementation, according to local health officials. In contrast, four Israeli soldiers have also lost their lives during this period in Gaza.
