Arabic version: سياسة الإسكان لحزب أمة واحدة تواجه تدقيقًا بعد مقابلات مربكة
One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has been forced to clarify the party’s housing policy after multiple MPs were unclear on elements. This comes after both Barnaby Joyce and senator Sean Bell had disastrous interviews when asked questions regarding foreign ownership of homes in Australia.
According to ABC News, under One Nation’s policy, foreign owners of homes in Australia would have two years to sell their property or have it repossessed by the government. However, confusion arose when Joyce suggested that this measure would also apply to permanent residents, which he later retracted in a subsequent interview.
Hanson confirmed on social media that the policy would not affect permanent residents, stating that the two-year divestment requirement applies only to temporary visa holders and foreign citizens residing overseas. She emphasized that One Nation would remove the ability for international students, non-permanent residents, and non-Australian citizens from buying future property within Australia.
The confusion continued when senator Bell could not provide details on what would happen if homes were not sold within the two-year time frame, leading to a chaotic interview on Sydney radio station 2GB. Host Mark Levy criticized Bell for failing to provide clear answers, describing the situation as “turning into a train wreck.”
Deputy Opposition Leader Jane Hume remarked that One Nation was at a loss to explain how its housing plan would work. She expressed concern that the party’s stance on evicting individuals from their homes is alarming, suggesting that the policy lacks substance and clarity.
