A blaze at a recycling plant in south London has caused major rail disruption in the area, according to BBC News. The London Fire Brigade reported that about 100 firefighters were called to Landmann Way, Bermondsey, just after 17:30 BST, utilizing 15 engines and turntable ladders to tackle the flames.
Images posted on social media show large clouds of smoke rising into the air, prompting safety advisories for local residents. Authorities have recommended that residents keep their windows and doors closed due to the smoke. Fire crews are likely to remain at the scene throughout the night as they work to extinguish a large amount of refuse.
Station Commander Wayne Bloomfield stated that residents should take precautions, such as pouring water on any loose embers near their homes and contacting emergency services if they notice any flames.
Network Rail has indicated that rail services in and out of London Bridge, including those operated by Southeastern and Thameslink, are expected to face disruption until at least 22:30. A major incident has been declared by the London Fire Brigade, and trains in the vicinity are running at reduced speed. Passengers have been advised that ticket acceptance is available for London Underground services as an alternative during this disruption.
