Karl Stefanovic’s controversial interview with far-right activist Tommy Robinson has led to significant fallout, prompting speculation about his future with the Nine Network. The interview was removed from Stefanovic’s platforms shortly after its release, and according to SBS News, it has since been uploaded to Pauline Hanson’s YouTube channel.
Stefanovic, Australia’s highest-paid news presenter, is reportedly negotiating his exit from Nine following backlash over the interview. Nine reportedly decided to cut ties with Stefanovic after the episode aired, which featured Robinson, known for his controversial views and anti-Islam activism.
Hanson, leader of the One Nation party, has publicly offered Stefanovic a job, criticizing Nine for allegedly moving to the political left. She expressed her support for Stefanovic during an appearance on Sky News, suggesting that he could join her office to make a political impact.
The fallout from the interview has raised questions about the independence of Stefanovic’s podcast, which he launched in January. While Nine stated that the podcast operates independently, the network is taking the situation seriously, having conducted crisis talks in response to the controversy.
As of now, Stefanovic’s future remains uncertain, with his contract set to expire in December. The incident marks another chapter in his tumultuous career, which has included previous controversies since he began co-hosting the Today show in 2005.
