According to ABC News, US singer Chris Brown has pleaded guilty to affray over an altercation at London’s Tape nightclub in February 2023, in which music producer Abraham Diaw was injured. Brown, 37, entered the plea at London’s Southwark Crown Court alongside his vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, 40.

Brown and Akinlolu, who performs as Hoody Baby, had faced charges of attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm and assault causing actual bodily harm. They had denied those allegations and had been due to stand trial in October, but prosecutor Heidi Stonecliffe said the other charges would not proceed to trial.

Both men admitted they “used or threatened unlawful violence towards another and their conduct taken together was such as would cause a person of reasonable firmness … to fear for their personal safety”. Prosecutors had alleged Brown launched an unprovoked attack on Diaw with a tequila bottle and that Brown and Akinlolu continued to attack him as he tried to flee.

They were granted bail and are due to be sentenced at the same court on October 26. The maximum sentence for affray is three years’ imprisonment. Judge Tony Baumgartner said “all options” would be open to the court. Brown was arrested in May 2025 after returning to Britain for the first time since the incident, and was later released after promising to pay a £5 million security fee. He left court to fans chanting “Breezy! Breezy!” before signing autographs.
