According to BBC News, security camera footage appears to show several police vehicles chasing a car minutes before a fatal crash near Middlesbrough killed seven people, including two police officers.

The clip is thought to have been recorded on Lime Road at 03:36 BST on Saturday morning. It was filmed around three minutes before a Volkswagen Passat travelling the wrong way on the nearby A66 collided with a marked police vehicle.

The BBC understands that the police vehicle involved in the collision was not part of the pursuit. The chase had stopped before the crash, the report said.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct has opened an investigation into the circumstances of the crash following a mandatory referral from Cleveland Police.
