According to ABC News, a Queensland woman has died after falling from the steep cliff at Kelingking Beach on Nusa Penida island near Bali. Local authorities said police and emergency services found her stranded on the southern side of the cliff on Saturday morning, local time.

Emergency personnel were sent to the scene, but the woman fell before they could reach her, authorities reported. Nusa Penida Alert Unit coordinator Cakra Negara said she was estimated to have fallen at about 9am while looking for an independent route to the cliff edge, before slipping into a ravine.

Rescue personnel and police retrieved her body from the shoreline. Mr Negara said a planned sea evacuation was cancelled because of high tides, and her body was instead carried up steep, narrow stairs to the Kelingking Beach viewing area during an operation lasting an hour and a half. A medical examination at Griya Medica Clinic found she had suffered several fractures and other injuries.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said it was providing consular assistance to the woman’s family and offered condolences. Kelingking Beach is a major tourist destination, known for panoramic views from its 180-metre-high coastal cliff and a lookout above the coast nicknamed “T-Rex Beach”.
