According to BBC News, Cole Palmer’s 2023-24 Chelsea campaign has been ranked as the most iconic Fantasy Premier League pick since the official game began in 2002-03. The BBC’s list, compiled with input from FPL expert Thomas Woods and research by Fantasy Football Scout, weighs statistics alongside the value delivered by players with modest starting prices.

Palmer began 2023-24 priced at £5m and did not start for Chelsea until matchweek seven. Ownership rose sharply as his returns mounted, with more than five million managers owning him when he scored four goals against Everton for a 26-point haul in gameweek 33. He ended the season as FPL’s leading scorer on 244 points and received a record £5.5m price rise for the following campaign.

Mohamed Salah was placed second, with his 344-point Liverpool season in 2024-25 selected as the premium player’s standout campaign. Salah has reached 200 points in a season eight times and is the only player to have exceeded 300 points, doing so twice. Swansea midfielder Michu ranked third after scoring 18 goals and earning 190 points in 2012-13, while Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez was fourth following his 240-point title-winning season in 2015-16.

The ranking also highlights players whose listed positions boosted their appeal. Sheffield United’s John Lundstram, a £4m defender who played in midfield, was fifth after posting 144 points in 2019-20. West Ham’s Michail Antonio, listed as a midfielder while deployed up front, took sixth after scoring eight goals in seven July 2020 appearances. Leeds defender Stuart Dallas, Swansea goalkeeper Michel Vorm, Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam and Tottenham striker Harry Kane completed the top 10.
