Arabic version: موري يشيد بتنامي قوة أيرلندا بعد الفوز على الأرجنتين
According to BBC News, Ireland opened their autumn Nations Championship series with a 42-12 victory over Argentina at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Friday night, scoring six tries. Former Ireland scrum-half Conor Murray discussed the performance on the Ireland Rugby Social podcast after the match.
Murray highlighted Hugo Keenan, who scored a hat-trick, describing him as “the ultimate team player”. He said Keenan communicates extensively on the pitch, helps organise the wingers and back-field system, and looked “incredibly fit, incredibly quick, explosive” in a performance he felt showed the player was back to his best.
He also praised the new half-back combination of Sam Prendergast and Craig Casey after their first big Test start together. Murray said they “marshalled the game really well”, while noting Prendergast had responded to a rocky start to his international career and public scrutiny. Of Casey, he pointed to quick ball, passing, kicking and control of the game.
Murray identified strong displays across Ireland’s forwards, including Tadhg Furlong, Andrew Porter, Dan Sheehan, Tadhg Beirne, Joe McCarthy and Ryan Baird. He said Porter had returned from an extended injury absence and showed his explosiveness and fitness, while adding that Nick Timoney and Josh van der Flier were in “a real battle” for the number seven jersey.
Looking ahead to matches against Fiji and South Africa, Murray said Ireland’s squad depth was “really impressive” and that Irish rugby was “going from strength to strength”. He said players selected against Fiji would see an opportunity to remain in contention for the South Africa game, while Ireland would need to maintain performance levels and respect Fiji.
