According to BBC News, York Valkyrie will face reigning champions Wigan Warriors in the Women’s Super League Grand Final after a 12-0 play-off semi-final victory over Leeds Rhinos at AMT Headingley Stadium.

Leon Pryce’s side scored through forwards Liv Wood and Adaoha Akwiwu in a tight contest. Tara-Jane Stanley converted Wood’s try and added a penalty as York led 8-0 at half-time.

Leeds, who had beaten York heavily in both regular-season home meetings, entered the match after four consecutive defeats. Their hopes of a response were frustrated when Georgia Elliston’s try was ruled out for obstruction, while Megan Pakulis was denied by a Ruby Bruce tackle.

Stanley later supplied the pass that sent Akwiwu over for York’s second try. Ebony Stead then fumbled while attempting to touch down, ending Leeds’ prospects of a late comeback.

York’s progress comes with a setback: stand-off Stanley will miss the September 27 Grand Final at the Brick Community Stadium after failing a head injury assessment. York beat Wigan 26-12 last week, ending the champions’ 100% record.
