According to ABC News, Sydney Roosters winger Daniel Tupou has retired from the NRL days after helping the club win the grand final against Newcastle. The 35-year-old ends a 15-year career having won four premierships with the Roosters.

Tupou won titles in 2013, 2018, 2019 and 2026, becoming only the sixth player in Roosters history to claim four premierships for the club. He played 307 games in a one-club career and scored 198 tries, the third-highest total in premiership history behind Ken Irvine and Alex Johnston.

The winger retires as the Roosters’ greatest try-scorer after passing Anthony Minichiello in 2023. He also won three World Club Challenges, played Test matches for Tonga and Australia, and made 10 State of Origin appearances for New South Wales between 2014 and 2022.

Roosters coach Trent Robinson said Tupou would stand as one of the club’s greats, praising his consistency, selflessness and dependability. Robinson said Tupou revolutionised the aerial game at the Roosters and became the greatest high-ball specialist of all time.

Tupou’s departure comes before an off-season exodus at the Roosters. Fellow winger Mark Nawaqanitawase and second rower Angus Crichton are moving to rugby union, playmaker Daly Cherry-Evans is joining Hull FC in the Super League, and Connor Watson is heading to St George Illawarra.
