According to Cnbc, U.S. Treasury yields inched lower on Tuesday as investors awaited further economic data and weighed the inflation backdrop before the Federal Reserve’s interest-rate decision next week. The benchmark 10-year Treasury yield fell 2 basis points to 5.114%, while the 30-year Treasury bond yield also declined 2 basis points to 5.45%.
The 2-year Treasury note yield was broadly flat at 4.757%. A basis point equals 0.01%, and Treasury yields move in the opposite direction of prices. The moves came as market participants looked ahead to housing indicators and other data releases that could shape views on economic conditions and inflation.
Housing starts and monthly pending home sales data for September were due later Tuesday morning. Weekly initial jobless claims are scheduled for release Thursday, followed by the S&P Global Composite PMI Flash on Friday. Investors are also awaiting the latest reading of the personal consumption expenditures index, the Federal Reserve’s preferred inflation gauge.
Traders were focused on the central bank’s next policy decision, due next week. The CME FedWatch Tool showed traders pricing in an 82% chance that the Federal Reserve will hold interest rates steady. The coming economic releases were set to provide additional information as investors assessed the inflationary backdrop ahead of that decision.
