Arabic version: بولتر تبلغ ربع نهائي بطولة اليابان المفتوحة
According to BBC News, Katie Boulter reached the Japan Open quarter-finals in Osaka by beating Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic 6-2 6-1 in less than an hour.
The British number two saved a break point in the opening game before taking control from 2-2 in the first set. Boulter won nine consecutive games before Golubic claimed the penultimate game of the match.
Boulter, the tournament’s eighth seed, will next play either Croatia’s Antonia Ruzic or American Kayla Day. The 30-year-old lost the British number one ranking to Sonny Kartal on Monday, but is set to regain it following her run this week.
Strong wind affected play, and Boulter said she was pleased with her response to the conditions. “I think one of the biggest things for me is staying patient in the wind,” she said. “Sometimes I can get a little frustrated, and I’m very pleased that I didn’t allow that to affect me today.”
She added that she played “some really good tennis in the second set” and was pleased with the performance.
