According to ABC News, an 18-year-old man has been charged with dangerous driving causing death, five months after an alleged hit-and-run in Alice Springs killed a 57-year-old man.

An NT Police spokesperson said the man was arrested at Alice Springs police station on Wednesday. He was also charged with hit-and-run and multiple other offences relating to the fatal crash.

Police previously said the 57-year-old was found unresponsive on Len Kittle Drive at about 9:30pm on May 20. He was believed to have suffered head injuries consistent with a vehicle strike and died at the scene after receiving catastrophic injuries.

Police formed a taskforce a week later involving major crash and regional crime detectives. The victim had been captured on dashcam footage walking south near the BMX track and was believed to have been struck about 350 metres south of that location, near the Men’s Shed building at Blatherskite Park.

Police said the investigation involved a coordinated effort by specialist units from across the Northern Territory and thanked people who assisted investigators. The 18-year-old was remanded in custody and is due to appear in Alice Springs Local Court on Thursday.
