Arabic version: ريبل ويلسون تحصل على 359 ألف دولار في قضية «ذا ديب»
According to ABC News, Rebel Wilson has secured a second legal win over her directorial debut, The Deb, after the Supreme Court of NSW dismissed a $15 million case brought by UK production firm AI Film.
Justice Elisabeth Peden found that Wilson had asked for a malicious website to be created, but said there was no proof the site caused AI Film financial loss. The company had claimed statements on Wilson’s social-media accounts and a fake takedown website had made the film unprofitable.
AI Films, a subsidiary company, was awarded $10 in nominal damages for technical breaches of its social-media contract. The court ordered it to pay Wilson’s company, Camp Sugar, $359,000 in unpaid producer fees, as well as her legal costs.
The judgment found that statements on the website amandaghostsucks.com were “actuated with malice on Ms Wilson’s part”, but said none of the people named were AI Film producers and the company had not established a causal connection between the representations and any loss. The court also heard that October 2025 emails showed international distributors had concerns that the movie felt “small and distinctly Australian.”
Wilson said on Instagram that defending herself had come at “an enormous personal, emotional and financial cost” and that she was proud to have stood her ground. The result follows the unsuccessful defamation case against Wilson by The Deb lead actor Charlotte MacInnes, who has appealed. AI Film’s producers are also suing Wilson for defamation in California.
