According to BBC News, Swedish club Djurgardens have agreed a National League record fee, thought to exceed £1.5m, to sign Boreham Wood winger Abdul Abdulmalik.
The 23-year-old is in Sweden completing a medical after the agreement was reached on Sunday morning. The move surpasses the previous record for a player from England’s fifth tier, set when Leicester City paid Fleetwood Town £1m for Jamie Vardy in 2012.
Abdulmalik scored 17 goals and registered 10 assists during a breakthrough 2025-26 campaign as Boreham Wood reached the National League play-off final. He scored and created a goal at Wembley, although the club narrowly missed promotion to League Two. He also won the National League Cup with Boreham Wood last season.
The deal ends a prolonged transfer situation after Boreham Wood rejected bids of £1m and £1.5m for the former Millwall academy player earlier in the summer. He scored in his final appearance for the club in mid-August, before making himself unavailable for selection while seeking a move. Peterborough United were among English clubs interested in him.
Abdulmalik said he was ready for the next challenge and wanted to prove he was capable of reaching the top. Previously an England Under-17s international, he was released by Millwall in 2024 and had an unsuccessful trial at Portsmouth. Djurgardens, based in Stockholm, are fifth in the Allsvenskan and remain in contention for European qualification.
