According to ABC News, the proposed design for Adelaide’s MotoGP street circuit will be publicly released in the coming weeks, with construction due to begin in December. Adelaide will host the Australian MotoGP from November 2027 after the South Australian government secured the event from Victoria.

Lord Mayor Jane Lomax-Smith warned the project would change the city’s parklands “irrevocably and permanently”. She said the community should have sufficient opportunity to examine the design and provide feedback before the project proceeds.

The circuit is expected to require the removal of at least 45 significant trees. South East City Residents Association treasurer Doug McEvoy said his group was concerned about environmental effects and had written to the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme, arguing its environmental guidelines were not being upheld. A public “stop the chop” petition has attracted more than 28,000 signatures.

Motorcycle Alliance of South Australia chair Heath Norris backed a city circuit, saying Adelaide offered a more central location, accommodation and transport than The Bend Motorsport Park at Tailem Bend. Premier Peter Malinauskas said the government was working to release the plans, total project cost and the full number of trees to be removed as soon as possible.
