According to ABC News, Adelaide television personality Ian Fairweather has died aged 86 after complications following a fall. A family spokesperson said he died on Thursday morning at Gosford Hospital in New South Wales. Fairweather became a household name through his television work in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, including at Channel Nine.

He worked on programs including the popular children’s show Here’s Humphrey, and was known both for appearing on screen and for his work behind the scenes. His face became recognisable to generations of viewers, while colleagues said his personality was central to the programs he helped create. Fairweather began his television career in 1959 and spent his final years on New South Wales’ Central Coast.

Former colleague Penni Hamilton-Smith, who first met Fairweather when she was a young actress in 1970 and worked with him for two decades, remembered him as kind and considerate and supportive of young performers. She said she would treasure memories of his “delicious, wicked sense of humour” and called him a “gorgeous, wonderful, talented, brilliant man”.

Hamilton-Smith said Fairweather was happy, confident and thoughtful about others, whether he was in front of the camera or working off screen. She said he made characters and programs come alive, helped many people and brought joy to audiences. A family tribute described him as an incredible person who led an incredible life.
