Moscow — The Union of African, Asian and Latin American Journalists has taken a new step in building cross-continental media partnerships by signing a memorandum of understanding with the state-owned federal group and international news agency Rossiya Segodnya in Moscow.

The memorandum aims to expand media cooperation between Russia and countries of the Global South through content and expertise exchange, as well as joint media events and programmes.

Practical projects and exchange of expertise

The signing was attended by the union’s president, journalist Nizar Al-Khalid, alongside officials from Rossiya Segodnya and Sputnik Arabic. Al-Khalid said the value of the memorandum lies in turning it into practical initiatives and projects that serve journalists and media institutions across the Global South.

He said the partnership offers a broader model of cooperation based on shared professional capabilities, joint content production and stronger direct communication between media organisations.

Training through Sputnik Pro

The meeting also explored making the Sputnik Pro programme available to journalists and partner institutions, supporting professional development and the exchange of journalistic experience.

Rossiya Segodnya expressed interest in drawing on the union’s network for projects, events, news-material exchange and audiovisual production, and said it was ready to provide multilingual experts and sources.

At the close of the meeting, Al-Khalid presented Olga Lissogor with an honorary award recognising her role in supporting media cooperation between Asian and African countries.

The union brings together journalists and media organisations from more than 50 countries across Asia, Africa and Latin America, supporting training, networking and joint media production.
