According to ABC News, the NSW Early Learning Commission has suspended the service approval of Kidscape Early Learning Centre in East Albury for six months over alleged safety risks.

The independent regulator took action on Thursday after identifying several breaches. NSW Early Learning Commissioner Daryl Currie said authorised officers had visited the centre regularly during the past two years and taken numerous compliance actions.

The commission cited insufficient supervision, failures to protect children from harm and hazards, and unsafe indoor and outdoor environments. It also raised concerns about awareness of child protection laws and reporting obligations, staff induction procedures, and whether resources used at the service were age appropriate.

Mr Currie said the closure would inconvenience families but that the commission would choose short-term disruption over possible long-term trauma and harm. Families seeking support can use the Starting Blocks website or contact the commission for help finding alternative services and vacancies.

A notice at the centre said no children could be accepted while it was closed and apologised for the short notice. The centre said it was awaiting formal written information from the commission. An investigation is under way.
