Arabic version: الجزائر توافق على نشر قوات في النيجر
According to France 24, Algeria’s parliament on Sunday approved a resolution to send troops to Niger, marking the country’s first overseas military deployment in more than 50 years.
The decision means Algerian soldiers will be deployed abroad for the first time since the 1973 Arab-Israeli war.
Niger is facing persistent attacks by armed groups, including in areas near its border with Algeria. The planned deployment follows the parliamentary approval for troops to be sent to the neighbouring country.
The move also comes as Algiers and Niamey work on the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline, a project being developed after decades of delays.
