According to ABC News, the Alice Springs Rodeo returned at Blatherskite Park on Saturday after a hiatus in 2025, attracting more than 2,000 spectators for bull riding, bucking horses and junior events.

Aileron Bush Club secretary James Christian said the event’s return had brought together people from across the community, as well as organisers and competitors from across a roughly 1,000-kilometre stretch of the Territory. Young riders also entered horse and poddy calf events, including 10-year-old Lucy Muenstr and 12-year-old Ollie McKay.

Three competitors were taken to hospital after injuries during the rodeo. They were reported to be in a stable condition and recovering. Announcer Ricky J. Morrison said injuries were an accepted risk in the sport, pointing to the difference in size between riders and bulls.

RSPCA Australia senior scientific officer Di Evans said the organisation remained opposed to rodeos on animal welfare grounds, citing risks of pain, injury, fear and stress for animals. She acknowledged rodeos could foster social connections and support regional identity and economies, while arguing those benefits could be achieved in other ways.

Territory cowboy Sam Webb, 38, won the Open Bull Ride and the final shoot-out. He earned $1,500 for each victory, taking home $3,000. Organisers described the event as a “peak success” and hope the rodeo will return next year.
