In a meeting that reflects the depth of Libyan–Turkish relations and the two countries’ commitment to supporting stability in Libya, Ambassador Abdel Muttalib Thabit, Libya’s envoy and Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States, took part in talks in New York between Libya’s Presidential Council President Mohamed al-Menfi and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The meeting addressed a number of political files of mutual interest, recent developments in Libya, and prospects for advancing bilateral relations.

Ambassador Thabit said the meeting was an important opportunity to exchange views on the latest political landscape in Libya and on ways to advance the political track toward ending the transitional phases and creating the right conditions for comprehensive presidential and parliamentary elections that would strengthen state institutions and support Libya’s stability.

He explained that the discussions emphasized the importance of the political process in Libya being owned and led by Libyans, in a way that preserves the state’s sovereignty and the independence of its national decision-making, and that opens the door to a political settlement based on the will and aspirations of the Libyan people toward building a unified, stable state.

The meeting also considered ways to enhance coordination and cooperation between Libya and Turkey across various fields, serving the shared interests of the two countries and their friendly peoples, and supporting bilateral relations founded on cooperation and mutual understanding.

This meeting took place within the diplomatic activity accompanying the United Nations General Assembly in New York, which has featured consultations and meetings aimed at discussing regional and international issues and supporting efforts to achieve security and stability.
