Punk rockers Amyl and The Sniffers celebrated a successful night at the 2026 APRA Music Awards, taking home three prestigious trophies. Their track “Jerkin'” was honored with both the Peer-Voted Song of the Year and Most Performed Rock Work awards. Additionally, the band claimed the Songwriter of the Year award for the second consecutive year. According to ABC News, the energetic performance of the song, featured on their album “Cartoon Darkness,” captivated audiences despite its explicit lyrics.
The awards ceremony, held at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion on Wednesday night, also marked a significant milestone for the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA), celebrating 100 years since its founding in 1926. The event included performances from notable artists such as Paul Kelly and Christine Anu, and paid tribute to the late Rob Hirst, former drummer of Midnight Oil, who passed away in January at the age of 70.
Sia continued her winning streak, securing the Most Performed Australian Work Overseas award for her hit “Unstoppable,” marking her third consecutive win in this category. This victory solidified her status as the most awarded songwriter in APRA history, with a total of 14 awards.
Other winners included Guy Sebastian, whose song “Maybe” won both the Most Performed Australian Work and Most Performed Pop Work awards. Emerging songwriter Emily Wurramara was recognized as the Emerging Songwriter of the Year, while the band INXS received the prestigious Ted Albert Award for Outstanding Services to Australian Music. The night concluded with a performance of INXS’s classic track by Ecca Vandal, celebrating the band’s enduring legacy in the Australian music scene.
